This year is definitely going to ba an EASY costume year.
In the past, I've attended and worn completely uncomfortable (yet kicks-ass) costumes.
I used to live in San Diego and man the weather used to be awesome. I dunno what happened in the climate with global warming, but it has actually gotten warmer (especially during cc weekend....grrrr) than I have ever remember it being.
My 1st big time costume was from Star Wars; going as an Imperial Stormtrooper. I dont know how I did it but J and I actually walked right into 2 huge panels: Superman Returns and LOST.
I say amazing cause for most of the time at the con, I couldnt get more than 10 feet without being mauled for a pic. Fun in the beginning of the day, but, eating, going to the bathroom, trying to get some rest....hell no. A nightmare if you just want to walk and see things. Especially on the street. So, factor in all the walking, stopping and heat, I was done after 8-10 hours in the suit.
Hell, I even think I drove back to Long Beach that night. 2 hours back. I was finished.
I could go on about the following year as Boba Fett, but try and just imagine the above listed ordeal 10X as intense. Believe it, sucka.
SO! I have learned my lesson. While it's fun to be a celeberty for a day, I am still going dressed up, but very low key.
Thursday will be Dr. Horrible, the Joss Whedon-Neil Patrick Harris web/movie character, Friday, probably as Shaun of the dead. Speaking of packing, I have to throw in a bloodied cricket bat he used in the movie. Just from past experiences with costume props going thru airport security, I'll attach a note to it just in case they cannot tell red sharpie marker from real blood. Sat n Sunday, Dr. Who. Blue and Brown suit. Which will work, due to the Dr. Who panel on Sunday.
So, getting everything ready. Hoping the weather is fair and costume friendly. Looking forward to seeing a few old friends, Jaimie. San Diego Hooters and possibly a new spot called The Tilted Kilt!
Ok, if there are any questions you like to try to ask if I am lucky, please shoot em' my way.
